Policy and Advocacy

As your professional association, we have adopted several important principles which guide MOLN’s public policy efforts. These principles help us to focus our energy on issues which further the profession of nursing including: nurses' role in health care delivery, support of the appropriate evolution of our health care system, and laws and regulations underpinning our system of care and practice environment.

MOLN's annual Nursing Public Policy Internship is an intensive two-day workshop providing didactic and experiential learning surrounding health care public policy advocacy. Participants in the internship learn about the key steps to effect change in the legislative process and to get a bill into law. During the course we will describe how to be involved and influence policy at the local and national level and how to work effectively with legislators and legislative staff to advance a policy agenda.

On the second day of the workshop, participants participate in a mock hearing at the Capitol to learn how to develop and deliver effective testimony. View our calendar of events for the upcoming internship.

MOLN members have the opportunity to come to the Capitol to directly lobby their legislators at one of our several "MOLN at the Capitol" events scheduled throughout the legislative session. These events are organized to provide direct lobbying experiences for nurse leaders with professional guidance from an experienced professional lobbyist.
