MOLN is a professional association specifically dedicated to the support and development of nursing leadership. We define nurse leaders, not by title or position, but rather by the nurses interest and professional dedication to leadership. We know that leadership occurs at all levels of an organization and we invite all nurses interested in leadership to be a part of MOLN. Our mission is simple: To shape the future of health care by facilitating the professional development of nurse leaders.
MOLN achieves our core mission through our leadership education, mentoring new nurse leaders and providing opportunities for nurse leaders at all levels to network and share ideas. Additionally, MOLN exercises a leadership role in healthcare through our advocacy efforts and by collaborating with other nursing organizations.
Today, the members of MOLN are dedicated to quality health care for Minnesotans, the professional development of nurses and advancing the nursing profession. Our members include nurses who provide leadership in the nursing profession and in healthcare in general.
Although the Minnesota Organization of Nurse Executives was formally incorporated on August 8, 1984, the history that brought the organization to reality started in the 1960's when small groups of nursing directors throughout the state started meeting informally to support each other and share common problems and potential solutions.
The state was divided into seven districts consistent with the Minnesota Hospital Association districts. Key points of interest for these groups of nurses included: recruitment and retention of nursing staff, cost containment, staffing patterns, care delivery systems, keeping abreast of state and national legislative issues, continuing education and discussions with the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
In 1985 the name of the organization changed from the Minnesota Society for Nursing Service Administrators to Minnesota Organization of Nurse Executives (MONE).
Beginning in 1990, MONE began to meet together with the Council of Nurse Managers and in 1994, the Council of Nurse Managers and MONE joined together to form the Minnesota Organization of Leaders in Nursing (MOLN).
