Study identifies reasons for nurse attrition

December 06 2018|Publication: eNews Update

Nurse manager support is a major factor in retaining newly licensed nurses, concludes a Press Ganey analysis of survey data from nearly 250,000 RNs. The 2018 Nursing Special Report also cites joy in work along with praise and recognition as key retention drivers for new nurses. The report finds nurses who have been in practice for two to four years are at the highest risk for attrition. Experienced nurses most value quality of care and career development opportunities, the report found. Press Ganey CNO Christy Dempsey, MSN, RN, said nursing is at a critical crossroads. Leaders across the health care enterprise must recognize the diverse needs of a multigenerational workforce, she said, developing recruitment strategies and a nurturing culture to attract, engage and retain nursing talent.
