What Nurse Leaders Need to know about HIPPAA and Related Legal Issues in 2020 
MOLN Leadership Zoom Webinar

You won’t want to miss this informative webinar that will use a checklist approach to review the applicable legal and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, as amended by the HITECH Act, and other laws and regulations, in addition to an assessment of the effectiveness of your organization’s current health information privacy and security compliance program.

Upon completion of this program, the leader will be able to:

  • List and describe at least three laws governing the privacy and security of protected health and other personal information (PHI).
  • Discuss the key administrative, physical and technical safeguards required by HIPAA, as amended by the HITECH Act, which serve as the basis for an effective health information privacy and security compliance program.
  • Identify at least three types of HIPAA violations and the potential risks of civil, criminal and administrative penalties.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:

  Susan E. Ziel, BSN, MPH, JD enjoys a health care coaching and consulting role with Integrity Health Strategies that allows her to use her 40+ years of experience as a registered nurse, nursing administrator, consultant and health care attorney. Ziel advises health care clients as they assemble innovative and optimal healing environments -- whether physical or virtual -- that not only comply with applicable requirements, but which are also deliver on the Triple Aim's promise to provide better health care earlier and for less across an entire targeted population.

Ziel completed the Health Care Design and Innovation Certificate Program at the University of Minnesota and she is affiliated with the Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design (NIHD), both as a member and as an NIHD Fellow. She also serves as affiliate/adjunct faculty with the University of Minnesota and Clemson School of Nursing, South Carolina and teaches the Health Care Law and Ethics course in the University of Minnesota Health Services.
