LEADERSHIP SKILL BUILDING FOR CHARGE NURSES:

Being a front line nurse leader, such as a charge nurse or a house supervisor is one of the most difficult and yet rewarding roles for nurses working in acute and long-term care. Most nurses are not adequately prepared for the challenges thrust upon them when they first take on this important role. MOLN recognizes the need for training specifically geared toward the charge nurse and are providing an educational experience for both new charge nurses and experienced charge nurses (and other front line nurse leaders regardless of title) looking to refresh their basic leadership skills.

The workshop will focus on the role of the charge nurse and cover topics such as conflict resolution, communication skills, building an effective team, how to handle difficult situations and practical strategies for survival as a charge nurse.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Sharon Roy, RN, BAN is currently employed in the emergency department at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. She is entering her 34th year of nursing with a varied history of nursing experience and an extensive experience as a nursing educator. She has worked in long term care, pediatric critical care, adult critical care and emergency medicine. She has taught throughout the state as a presenter for Hennepin County Medical Center’s trauma services, presented internationally, and most recently was involved in the development of the simulation center at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. She has had the unique experience of practicing in a metropolitan setting and now at a critical access hospital.
