LEADERSHIP SKILL BUILDING FOR CHARGE NURSES:

Being a charge nurse is one of the most difficult and yet rewarding roles for nurses working in acute and long term care. Most nurses are not adequately prepared for the challenges thrust upon them when they first take on this important role. The Minnesota Organization of Leaders in Nursing (MOLN) recognizes the need for training specifically geared toward the charge nurse and are partnering to provide an educational experience for both new charge nurses and experienced charge nurses looking to refresh their basic leadership skills. The program will focus on the role of the charge nurse and participants will have opportunities to learn how to handle difficult situations, building an effective team and conflict resolution as well as practical strategies for survival as a charge nurse.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

The charge nurse "boot camp" instructor is Sharon Roy.  Sharon is currently employed in the Emergency Department at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. She is entering her 33rd year of nursing.  Ms. Roy has a varied history of nursing experience. She has worked in Long Term Care, Pediatric Critical Care, Adult Critical Care and Emergency Medicine.  Ms. Roy has extensive experience as a Nursing Educator. She has taught throughout the state as a presenter for Hennepin County Medical Center’s Trauma Services; presented internationally, and most recently was involved in the development of the Simulation Center at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center.
