Shauna Paulson, MSN, RN, CNML
Director, Nursing Inpatient
Sanford Medical Center Thief River Falls
How long have you been with MOLN?
Since July 2012. I was on the board of directors previously, representing district A, from January 2016 through December 2019. I am also involved in the Membership Committee. I currently serve as the district A representative.
Do you have a favorite MOLN memory so far?
I’ve had a lot of great memories with MOLN, especially during the conferences. Probably the most unexpected fun time was singing Karaoke with Diane Twedell and others at Madden’s.
How do you cope with the demanding aspects of your career?
We have a really good team who supports each other. I also reflect on the good things/wins that happen each day. Once I get home from work, I love to play with my kids and that also sparks joy.
Who inspires you?
My mom and grandma inspired me to become a nurse. The way that they took care of the community was an inspiration. Many people would come up to them and thank them for the great care they gave and expressed how caring they were. As a child, I knew I wanted to take care of people the way they did and that still inspires me today. My dad also encouraged me to “choose a job you love so you never have to work a day in your life.” I feel very lucky to be a nurse and nurse leader.
What is something that not many people know about you?
My husband and I became parents a little later in life. Our daughter Adelle, starting our family through adoption with 17 days of notice. Then, her brothers Ansel and Cormac came along to complete our family! All of them were equally surprising.
