Dr. Maggie Hall
Director of Surgical Services
Mercy Hospital, part of Allina Health
How long have you been with MOLN?
5+ years.
Do you have a favorite MOLN memory so far?
My favorite memory of MOLN was David Horsager’s talk on trust several years ago in Duluth at the
fall conference. His message continues to shape my leadership today.
How do you cope with the demanding aspects of your career?
To help cope with the demanding aspects of my career I rely heavily on my mentor relationships. I
have found that there is great power in support networks and that they help us to navigate difficult
situations, offer perspective, and help to bring clarity and hope in the most difficult of circumstances. I
am also a big believer in the power of reframing our thinking. This mindset shifting strategy helps me
to uncover opportunities for gratitude.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by transformational nursing leaders who are driven by innovation and possibility. An
example of an inspirational leader who embodies these qualities is Dr. April Prunty, a key nursing
leader at Allina Health. Dr. Prunty has inspired her team to reimagine nursing professional
development and in turn, has impacted our health system and entire healthcare community.
What is something that not many people know about you?
Few people know that I started working in the operating room as a surgical tech when I was 17 and
still in high school. This experience has significantly contributed to who I am as a nurse and as a leader.
